Twitter has More ‘Hidden’ Users Than Active Users (Which Means it’s Bigger Than You Think)

While one in five adult internet users worldwide are technically active on the Twitter platform, more than one in three regularly visit Twitter without ever logging in, reveals a new study.

GlobalWebIndex looked at “hidden” users of social media, notably Twitter, where 36 percent have visited the platform via any device in the past month — which is the definition of an active “user” of social media.

This compares to 22 percent who are strictly active users, inasmuch as they have a profile and are logged into Twitter when they use it.

This places Twitter in a similar position to YouTube, where 82 percent of internet users have visited the video portal (in the past month), but just 24 percent have accounts.

Bottom line: both Twitter and YouTube are much bigger than their active users tally would suggest.
