87th Academy Awards: 21M Facebook Users, 58M Interactions

According to a post on the Facebook Media blog by strategic partnerships, TV executives Melinda Arons and Kelly Michelena and data analyst Betsy Cameron, the 10 most-talked-about moments during Sunday night’s Oscars ceremony were:

  • Lady Gaga’s The Sound of Music medley and Julie Andrews’ appearance onstage for the 50th anniversary of the musical.
  • The Imitation Game wins Best Adapted Screenplay.
  • Birdman Wins Best Original Screenplay.
  • Eddie Redmayne wins Best Actor.
  • Birdman wins Best Picture.
  • Alejandro González Iñárritu wins Best Director for Birdman.
  • Patricia Arquette wins Best Supporting Actress.
  • John Legend and Common song “Glory” wins Best Original Song.
  • Julianne Moore wins Best Actress.
  • Adam Levine and Maroon 5 perform “Lost Stars” from Begin Again.
  • Arons, Michelena and Cameron said the Lady Gaga-Julie Andrews moment peaked at 214,000 people per minute globally and 154,000 in the U.S.

    They also shared the interactive map embedded below, from the Facebook Data Science Team, which “looked at how conversation about the Oscars played out in real-time on Facebook during the ceremony.”
