Chris Fronzak, frontman for the band Attila, has expanded his entrepreneurial pursuits with the launch of Spur, a photo-sharing app on iOS. Like Instagram (or other photo-centric social networks), Spur allows users to upload photos and share them with the world, but the platform deliberately lacks commonplace functionality, in order to create a safe environment for its users.

With Spur, users take pictures within the app, and can add descriptions of up to 100 characters before sharing them with the community. Once shared, users can up or down-vote a photo, in a fashion similar to Reddit, but a comment feature has been deliberately left out.

Fronzak commented on the design decision, in a statement:

The app does not allow you to comment on photos, thus making it a hate-free environment where people can feel comfortable in their own skin. I truly think that Spur has the potential to become the next big app.

Users can follow others within the app, and will view their latest uploads on their personal feed. Users can also browse the most recent uploads to the platform, or the most popular photos overall.

Spur is growing rapidly, with over 5,000 users downloading the app within the first 12 hours of its release. The reaction was so overwhelming, it reportedly caused the app’s servers to crash. These have since been upgraded, but Fronzak adds even these are “still struggling to handle the high volume of users on Spur.”

Spur is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store. The app is coming soon to Android.
